Jiske talks about her work as an HR Officer at Zwartwoud, the company culture, SROI, and how meaningful work and circularity come together.

At Zwartwoud, I see our core values reflected in practice every day.
When I joined Zwartwoud almost two years ago, it immediately felt like coming home. I came from a large corporate company and was looking for a smaller work environment where, as an HR professional, I could truly make an impact. I found Zwartwoud's website through a job site and immediately thought: this feels right. When I then got to know the organization, the atmosphere, and my colleagues, I knew for sure.
I work here as an HR advisor, and what makes my job so special is that our core values aren't just on paper. I see "open, optimistic, and agile" reflected in practice every day. In how colleagues collaborate, how we communicate with each other, and even in how visitors experience our organization. That gives me a tremendous amount of energy.

For me, circularity isn't just about materials; it's also about people.
For me, a strong culture starts at the foundation: hiring people who fit who we are as an organization. That's why we don't just look at experience or knowledge, but especially at personality and attitude. From HR, the MT, and marketing, we all promote the same core values. You see this reflected in daily collaboration, but also in development discussions and the way we give each other feedback.
What I also find very valuable about my work is my involvement in our SROI projects. SROI stands for Social Return on Investment, and for me, it's about making a social impact. It's about an organization not just focusing on results, but also on what it can do for others. We do this, for example, by collaborating with social workshops and by offering opportunities to people who are distanced from the labor market.
I believe that circularity isn't just about materials and sustainability; it's also about people. At Zwartwoud, we have a pleasant, safe working environment, and I appreciate that we can use it to help others feel like a part of society again. That truly makes our work meaningful for me.

The best part of my job is that we not only create sustainable spaces but also opportunities for people.
I get the most energy from the idea that we truly make an impact. Whether it's guiding someone towards suitable employment or collaborating with a social workplace: in everything we do, we can be of value to others. That feeling makes my work special every day.
If I were to give advice to someone who wants to work at Zwartwoud, it would primarily be: be agile. No two days, projects, or colleagues are the same. It's precisely that variety that makes the work enjoyable. As an organization, we've existed for over a hundred years because we continuously adapt and innovate. You still notice that every day.
And perhaps it sounds like a cliché, but ultimately, for me, it's the colleagues who make the difference. No job is perfect, but the people around you determine whether you go to work with pleasure every day. And I absolutely have that feeling here.
